Libraries for Literacy Initiative Videos Empowering Communities Across Cork & Limerick

The Libraries for Literacy project delivers a programme of activities focused on strengthening literacy, learning and community connection across the region.

The initiative brings stories, creativity and learning to life in local libraries in Charleville, Mitchelstown, Kilmallock and Cappamore, supporting individuals and communities to develop literacy skills and confidence. Through inclusive and engaging activities, the project reinforces the role of libraries as accessible, welcoming spaces at the heart of community life.

Project outcomes include:

  • Engagement with individuals of all ages through interactive literacy activities

  • Delivery of workshops and information sessions that promote literacy and lifelong learning

  • Strengthening community connections through locally delivered library events

Libraries for Literacy is rooted in the belief that literacy should be accessible, inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. By investing in libraries as community hubs, the project supports stronger, more connected communities where learning opens doors to opportunity.

The videos below bring together stories from across the project, highlighting the vital role libraries play in empowering communities and improving literacy throughout the region.

The Libraries for Literacy project, funded by Solas through the Collaboration and Innovation Fund, is a collaboration between Ballyhoura Development, Cork Education and Training Board, Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board, Cork Libraries, Limerick Libraries, Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS), and Fighting Words.
