On the 8th of April, Ballyhoura Development were delighted to host the launch of the SOILCRATES Living Lab in County Limerick — an exciting new project focused on improving and protecting local soil health.

The first meeting of the SOILCRATES Living Lab took place in Kilmallock, where 30 farmers and agribusiness stakeholders came together to learn more about this project. Dr. Lena Madden and Dr. Shane O'Sullivan from the Technological University of the Shannon shared valuable insights into the current state of soil health in Ireland and outlined how the Living Lab will work to restore and preserve it.

The Living Lab’s main goals include addressing soil health challenges such as nitrogen overuse and poor drainage, and supporting the introduction of innovative soil maintenance practices. Financial support will be available through the project to assist farmers and agribusinesses with trials and pilot initiatives aimed at enhancing soil quality.

The next meeting of the Living Lab will take place at the Deebert House Hotel on April 22nd at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend and find out more about this exciting project.
