Connecting Communities Through Local Food

Join us for an engaging evening where community organisations and food enthusiasts come together to explore local food initiatives. This event offers a platform to share ideas, learn about efforts to improve access to healthy food, and connect with others who are passionate about making a difference in the Ballyhoura area. Refreshments will be served. 

Organised in collaboration with Limerick Food Partnership, this event is part of a broader research project aimed at mapping Limerick’s food environment and identifying the key drivers of food poverty – from economic and social challenges to environmental and systemic factors.

The initiative involves creating detailed maps that highlight where and what types of food can be purchased commercially or accessed through community and voluntary sectors. These maps will be developed using a combination of quantitative data from the mapping process and qualitative insights from focus groups and surveys. The goal is to inform the development of a sustainable food strategy for Limerick City and County.

This focus group specifically targets the East Limerick area, aiming to capture: 

• Where and how people access food locally

• Challenges, experiences, and barriers to accessing healthy, affordable food

• Community-driven solutions and ideas for positive change

It is one of three events across Limerick City and County where local community and voluntary groups are invited to participate in discussions and share their firsthand experiences regarding food access in their communities. The information gathered will be instrumental in creating a robust food strategy for the region.
