Certificate in Sustainable Tourism Destinations Join the Journey to Sustainable Tourism with the MTU Certified Sustainability Training Programme Ballyhoura Fáilte, in collaboration with Ballyhoura Development and Fáilte Ireland’s Ireland's Hidden Heartlands, are delighted to offer a certified training programme designed to support a wide range of businesses and groups in the tourism sector across the Ballyhoura region. This programme provides participants with the knowledge and practical tools necessary for implementing sustainable tourism practices. Who is it for? This programme is open to a diverse range of businesses and groups in the Ballyhoura region, including accommodation providers, hospitality businesses, activity and agritourism providers, tourism, heritage, and history groups, visitor attractions and centres, food producers, golf clubs, cafes, restaurants, theatres, and galleries. Tourism businesses plays a key role in showcasing what the Ballyhoura region has to offer. This program is perfect for tourism businesses that are keen to lead by example in sustainable tourism and inspire others. It’s all about equipping them with the skills and tools to implement sustainable practices and foster a balanced approach to tourism development that benefits both our community and the environment. About the Programme The training programme will be run by The Tourism Space, led by the highly experienced Tina O’Dwyer, a pioneer in sustainable tourism, along with her team of experts in energy management, biodiversity, and accessible and regenerative tourism. They bring years of experience and a wealth of knowledge to ensure businesses receive the best insights and practical tips. The training is aligned with Fáilte Ireland's Climate Action Plan. MTU Certification The training is supported by Fáilte Ireland's Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and is offered to businesses free of charge. It is QQI Level 6 Certtified Programme by Munster Technological University (MTU) and while the programme itself is free to attend, the accreditation fee of €195 is paid directly to MTU by the participating businesses. Participants will receive comprehensive training on: Sustainability Action Planning and Goal-Setting Setting up a Sustainability Management System Carbon Footprint Calculation and Reduction Strategies Energy Management, Waste Reduction, and Water Conservation Enhancing Biodiversity and Implementing Inclusive Visitor Experiences Sustainability Storytelling to effectively market your sustainable initiatives Plus, this is a fantastic chance to network with other local businesses and share ideas on how we can all contribute to a more sustainable future for Ballyhoura. When and Where? The programme runs from Monday, 30th September 2024, to February 2025 (Mondays). Planned are a mix of in-person workshops, online sessions, and a field trip. There will be breaks for the midterm and Christmas holidays, to ensure it fits around the busy business schedule.
