East Limerick Traveller Women’s Summer Trip to Bunratty In August, over 30 local women and girls of all ages experienced the medieval charm of the Bunratty Castle and Folk Park in County Clare. Through a guided tour of the castle, they learned about the fascinating history and the families who once lived there. They discovered intriguing details, such as the purpose of the dividing line in the great hall and the secrets hidden within the castle's stone walls. They took turns to climb the winding stone staircases, looking out for trapdoors and murder holes! Once out in the open air, the group marvelled at the quaint cottages that dotted the landscape, providing a glimpse into the simple lives of labourers and farmers from the past. The Folk Park offered a unique insight into daily life and accommodation during that era. To wrap up, the group gathered in the old schoolhouse, where they learned about the landlord who built the school for his tenants’ children. This gesture aimed to enhance their education and provide them with greater opportunities Manage Cookie Preferences
